Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) refused the Bangladesh Textile Mills Association's (BTMA) accusations of smuggling textiles through Utilisation Declaration (UD) and under-invoicing, and announced to stop conducting business if BTMA proves its allegations.

Leaders of BKMEA asked the BTMA to submit proofs to the government to verify its claims, otherwise withdraw its comments with admitting guilt in a week.

At the press conference held in the office of BKMEA, its leaders accused BTMA for its complicity in smuggling fabrics and selling at higher prices to the domestic markets.

BKMEA President M Fazlul Hoque informed media that they have urged the government to investigate the issue as BTMA has the scope of smuggling fabrics as their prices are nearly 15-20 percent higher than the international market.

Challenging BTMA, Hoque said that if they produces any kind of evidence for BKMEA's involvement in smuggling, they will accept any punishment that BTMA wishes.
