Summary: New orders for manufactured goods in July, up five of the last six months, increased $15.8 billion or 3.7 percent to $436.7 billion, the U.S. Census Bureau reported. This was at the highest level since the series was first stated on a NAICS basis in 1992 and followed a 1.0 percent June increase.
Shipments, up four of the last five months, increased $10.9 billion or 2.6 percent to $425.9 billion. This was also at the highest level since the series was first stated on a NAICS basis in 1992 and followed a 0.5 percent June decrease.
Unfilled orders, up twenty-six of the last twenty-seven months, increased $17.4 billion or 2.4 percent to $754.5 billion. This was also at the highest level since the series was first stated on a NAICS basis in 1992 and followed a 1.6 percent June increase. The unfilled orders-toshipments ratio was 4.93, down from 4.97 in June.
Inventories, up sixteen of the last seventeen months, increased $0.8 billion or 0.2 percent to $517.3 billion. This was also at the highest level since the series was first stated on a NAICS basis in 1992 and followed a 0.2 percent June increase. The inventories-to-shipments ratio was 1.21, down from 1.24 in June.
New Orders: New orders for manufactured durable goods in July, up five of the last six months, increased $13.1 billion or 6.0 percent to $230.7 billion, revised from the previously published 5.9 percent increase. This was also at the highest level since the series was first stated on a NAICS basis in 1992 and followed a 1.8 percent June increase.
