"Company believe that the new mattress will expand the group of people they are able to reach in the Tempur-Pedic customer base as well as expand the viscoelastic market in general," Stone added.

Throughout the market, many retailers discussed the impact "The OriginalBed by Tempur-Pedic" will have on the mattress market as a whole. Barrie Brown of Mattress Giant with more than 250 stores all carrying the Tempur-Pedic line of products gave his reaction to executives while visiting the showroom.

"Introducing 'The OriginalBed by Tempur-Pedic' mattress is a great move for Tempur-Pedic. The majority of mattresses retail for under $1,000. The retail price of the new premium product will expand the interest of consumers and more sales will be captured for Tempur-Pedic."

Long-time Tempur-Pedic customer, Bill Paladini from Rockaway Bedding, mirrored Brown's thoughts. Rockaway Bedding currently has over 200 stores selling Tempur-Pedic mattresses and pillows. "Company think Tempur-Pedic will widen the potential market for its premium viscoelastic products. Remember 83 percent of all retail mattress transactions are under $1,000. By rolling out this product, Tempur-Pedic should attract this market up to its premium product line."

"The OriginalBed by Tempur-Pedic" is similar to the first mattress product ever sold by Tempur-Pedic but includes a few construction upgrades including a removable, washable, terry-cloth cover and the capability to meet current fire safety standards. "The OriginalBed by Tempur-Pedic" features three inches of the proprietary TEMPUR pressure relieving material and stands approximately eight inches tall. A proprietary Platform Foundation or a Tempur-Pedic Adjustable Bed Base complements the mattress.
