Planalytics Flashweather is a weekly report designed to provide an historical view of weather's influence on the overall retail industry for the prior week.

While the South Sizzled, Canada and U.S. Northern Tier Received Refreshing Relief. Tropical Storm Erin Brought Unwelcome Heavy Rains to Texas.

Weekend Review (18-19 August 2007):
After a week of scorching temperatures with heat index values exceeding 100 degrees F, most of the South from Texas to the Carolinas saw some relief as high temperatures cooled into the 90s. Meanwhile, Canada and most of the U.S. Northern Tier (particularly the Northeast and Upper Midwest) experienced a resurgence of much cooler temperatures and comfortable humidity levels.

Low temperatures in the 40s and 50s in eastern Canada, New England, and Great Lakes likely helped to stimulate some early season fall apparel demand. After a week of heat, temperatures cooled over the interior Pacific Northwest and northern Rockies.

Heavy precipitation from showers and thunderstorms was widespread from Oklahoma northward into the Plains and
Midwest associated with a stationary frontal system. Flooding rains were reported across many areas in the Midwest. Periods of rain made it into the Northeast late in the weekend. The Pacific Northwest also experienced a good soaking late in the weekend. Hurricane Dean had further strengthened into a Category 4 monster, heading for Jamaica.
