Late summer heat and humidity levels were high across much of the lower 48, particularly from the Mid-Atlantic into the Southeast. The West Coast also experienced higher than typical temperatures, which kept consumers thoughts on summer activities and purchasing.
Meanwhile, a much cooler Canadian plunge occurred across the Canadian Prairies, Northern Plains and Rockies, and pushing into the Upper Midwest late in the weekend. Morning low temperatures in the 40s and low 50s (30s in Canada) were commonplace late in the weekend. Precipitation was widespread.
Early weekend, remnants of what was once Hurricane Henriette inundated Texas, Oklahoma, and Missouri with heavy rains. Tropical Strom Gabrielle formed in the Atlantic and made its way toward North Carolina, dumping heavy rains with 40 to 50mph winds along coastal areas late in the weekend. Emergency purchasing (e.g. batteries, generators, etc.) in advance of the storm was robust.
Last Week (week-ending 09/08/2007): It was an eventful week for weather across North America. While Hurricane Felix stayed well south of the U.S., Hurricane Henriette worked her way up the Mexican coast striking Baja with hurricane force winds, then spreading heavy rains mid to late week into Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas.
