Online retailer Saks Incorporated announced George Jones, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Company's Saks Department Store Group ("SDSG"), has resigned from the Company effective September 30, 2005, and that Toni Browning has been named President and Chief Executive Officer of SDSG's Parisian business, effective September 15, 2005.
Jones joined the Company in 2001 as President and Chief Executive Officer of SDSG, adding direct responsibility for the operations of Parisian to his duties in 2003.
Browning has held the post of President and Chief Executive Officer of SDSG's Proffitt's business since 1997, adding responsibility for McRae's in 2000. The Proffitt's/McRae's businesses were sold to Belk in July 2005. She held posts of increasing responsibility with Younkers between 1993 and 1997, including Senior Vice President of Stores. Prior to that, she served in various store and merchandising capacities with Dayton Hudson Corporation and with both the Lazarus and Blocks divisions of Federated/Allied Stores. In her new role, she will report to Steve Sadove, Vice Chairman and Chief Operating Officer of the Company.
Sadove noted, "Toni Browning is an accomplished leader and an experienced retailer. She has very capably run Proffitt's/McRae's business for the last eight years. She has been a driving force behind the implementation of many SDSG store-wide initiatives including the introduction of a number of unique service elements in stores. Throughout her career, Toni consistently has demonstrated creativity and an exceptional ability to identify and maximize strategic opportunities."
