Prime Minister General Soe Win opened a new textile factory locate at Pakokku in the cotton producing region of central Myanmar, Saturday last.
New factory is equipped with in-house spinning and weaving units was set up with Chinese company's technical know-how and technical assistance.
Among other high-ranking officials present at the function was President of Tianjin Machinery Import and Export Corporation of China, Mr Sun Jianrong and other Chinese experts.
Built at the cost of US $23 million, it is a joint venture between a Chinese company and the Myanmar Ministry of Industry, contract for which was signed in July 2001.
There will be 30,000 spindles and 828 auto shuttle looms, the first phase of which was contracted with the Chinese side responsible for the overall design, work supervision and supply of equipment for the plant.
In March this year, another factory was opened at Pwint Pyu, contracted by the same Chinese company that set up the new plant.
