Edenton based George C. Moore Co., weaving fabrics and producing dyes elastic materials in use by the textile industry will close shop and shift production to El Salvador, Central America next year.
Trade pact Central American Free Trade Agreement has been squarely blamed for the likely shift by Edenton Town Manager Anne-Marie Knighton, resulting in 200 redundancies starting April, 2006.
Under the Central American Free Trade Agreement, or CAFTA, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic get free access of US markets.
