In 2023, China exported $4,436.329 million worth of home textiles to ASEAN countries, with the trade peaking at $5,283.012 million in 2022. However, it eased in the following year. Trade data indicates that ASEAN countries became significant buyers of Chinese home textile products during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 and thereafter. China’s home textile exports to the bloc were noted at $2,696 million in 2019, before the pandemic. This figure surged to $4,708.593 million in 2020 when consumers were confined to their homes due to long lockdowns and restrictions, according to Fibre2Fashion's market insight tool TexPro.
Interestingly, global demand for home textile products eased in the subsequent years. Consumers’ demand for these products reduced after the pandemic as they no longer needed to stay at home. However, Chinese shipments of home textiles to ASEAN countries did not decrease. Shipments further increased to $4,996.658 million in 2021 and $5,283.012 million in 2022.
Product-wise, China's export of home textiles to the bloc showed that bedding remained the most exported product in the first six months of this year. Bedding exports from China to ASEAN were valued at $426.753 million during this period, accounting for 19.01 per cent of the total home textile shipments. Among the top five products, bathroom and kitchen textiles were exported at $378.692 million (16.87 per cent), made-ups at $360.121 million (16.04 per cent), flooring at $210.644 million (9.38 per cent), and sacks and bags at $180.942 million (8.24 per cent). The total share of the top five products constituted around 70 per cent of the total home textile exports to the market, according to TexPro.
