Textiles & apparel exports reach US $93.293bn in Jan-Aug

According to the General Administration of Customs, China's foreign trade value reached US $1104.610 billion in Jan-Aug 2006, indicating a growth of 23.90 percent from the same period last year, with export at $599.63 billion and import at $504.98 billion, increasing 25.90 percent and 21.60 percent respectively, recording a trade surplus at $94.66 billion.
China's textiles and apparel foreign trade value accumulated at $105.202 billion in January-August 2006, rising 22.25 percent on year, accounting for 9.52 percent of country's foreign trade.
China's textiles and apparel export value was $93.293 billion, increasing 24.67 percent a year, making a share of 15.56 percent of the whole country's foreign trade. Textiles export valued as $33.76 billion, up 6.07 percent from the previous year, accounting 2.36 percent of the country's foreign trade.
Textiles import valued at $10.78 billion, representing an increase of 4.97 percent on year. Apparel import valued at $1.129 billion, rising 17.83 percent from the previous year. Textiles and apparel foreign trade showed a surplus of $81.384 billion in Jan-Aug 2006.
Among the main destinations for exported textiles and apparel, United States ranked the top; Japan and Hong Kong ranked the second and the third. During Jan-Aug 2006, export to USA came to $13.58 billion, rising 6.67 percent from the same period of last year; export to Japan came to $12.083 billion, up 7.7 percent; export to Hong Kong came to $11.732 billion, up 23.88 percent. Export to USA, Japan and Hong Kong combined at $37.395 billion, accounting for 40.08 percent of the whole country's textiles and apparel export.
