It is observed that in the first half of this year, output of chemical fiber has maintained a rapid growth, sales showed a normal trend and export volume a rapid growth. However, imports continued to decline.
From January to May, domestic chemical fiber production reached around 9.37 million tons, up 17.9 percent over the same time last year. The increase was 2.39 percentage points faster than that of last year and 4.97 percentage points higher over last year's annual growth rate.
Of this, acrylic fibre have seen the fastest growth with production reaching 390,700 tons, up 22.91 percent over the same time last year. Viscose fiber output completed 686,400 tons, a rise of 19.82 percent year-on-year.
Polyester production rose 16.91 percent to 7.3102 million tons. Nylon and Vinylon fibre production rose 14.07 percent and 10.08 percent respectively whereas polypropylene showed a negative growth.
Since production and sales of chemical fiber were booming, imports dropped by 8.42 percent and export volume grew 48.7 percent over the corresponding period last year.
From January to May, chemical fiber imports registered 5,03,500 tons with import value being basically flat with the same period last year.
Taiwan, South Korea and Japan were still the top 3 suppliers, accounting for 38.54 percent, 17.07 percent and 15.74 percent respectively.
Of the total imports of chemical fibers, general trade formed only 36.65 percent and processed fibre made a proportion as high as 58.78 percent.
