Textile & apparel exports show mixed trend

Customs statistics reveal that in the first half of 2007, country's textile and apparel exports reached US $75.47 billion, a year-on-year growth of 17.55 percent.

Of these, exports of textile scored $27.162 billion, up 10.82 percent and garment sector realized $48.308 billion, growth of 21.71 percent.

China's exports of this segment to the US registered $11.541 billion, up 29.32 percent and that to the EU reached $12.519 billion, an increase of 0.03 percent.

During this period, China's textile and apparel export price index rose 8.17 percent. For garment it hiked 10.11 percent and for textile the rise was 4.59 percent.

Price index of textile and apparel exports to the US grew 2.10 percent where as for EU it climbed 4.14 percent.

In the first six month of 2007, exports of women's woven casual wear suits totaled to 23.91 million pieces, a year-on-year decline of 20.92 percent, export value achieved $158 million, a year-on-year drop of 25.21 percent, and the average unit price read $ 6.62 per set, down 5.43 percent.

Exports of woven robes for women amounted to 54.68 million pieces, a fall of 2.62 percent, valued at $156 million, down 19.10 percent, and the average unit price read $2.84 per piece, falling 16.96 percent.

Women's woven down feather garment exports registered 5.54 million pieces, 21.22 percent on year-on-year decline, with value achieving $110 million, a drop of 14.26 percent, and the average unit price scored $19.93 per piece, a surge of 8.85 percent.
