US home textile imports from Turkiye surpass apparel in H1 2024

The United States’ imports of home textiles from Turkiye were greater than its imports of apparel from the same country during the first half of 2024. The country imported home textile products worth $571.878 million from Turkiye between January and June this year, while its imports of apparel were valued at $450.991 million during the same period.

According to Fibre2Fashion's market insight tool TexPro, US imports of home textiles included floor, bathroom & kitchen, bed, window, and made-ups as the top five product categories from January to June this year. Out of the total imports of home textiles, valued at $571.878 million, floor imports accounted for $456.820 million, representing 79.89 per cent of the total home textile imports. The import of bathroom & kitchen textiles was $76.982 million (13.46 per cent), bed textiles $8.434 million (1.48 per cent), window textiles $7.793 million (1.36 per cent), and made-ups $6.052 million (1.06 per cent).

In 2023, the United States had imported home textiles worth $1,095.985 million from Turkiye. Floor textiles were the leading product category, with imports valued at $829.897 million, accounting for 75.72 per cent of total home textile imports from Turkiye. Bathroom & kitchen textiles were valued at $167.013 million (15.24 per cent), bed textiles at $41.561 million (3.79 per cent), window textiles at $17.769 million (1.62 per cent), and made-ups at $12.072 million (1.10 per cent).

According to TexPro, the import of trousers and shorts was valued at $133.538 million in the first half of this year, representing 29.61 per cent of the United States' total apparel imports of $450.991 million from Turkiye. The import of dresses was valued at $57.791 million (12.81 per cent), shirts at $56.439 million (12.51 per cent), jerseys at $55.384 million (12.28 per cent), and T-shirts at $33.405 million (7.41 per cent).

Last year, the United States imported apparel worth $995.934 million from Turkiye. Of this, trousers and shorts topped the list with a value of $277.137 million, accounting for 27.83 per cent of the total. The import of jerseys was valued at $139.830 million (14.04 per cent), shirts at $119.214 million (11.97 per cent), dresses at $100.203 million (10.06 per cent), and T-shirts at $59.044 million (5.93 per cent).
