According to Fibre2Fashion's market insight tool TexPro, the US imported industrial textiles worth $118.009 million from Mexico in January-March 2024. This was 17.69 per cent higher than the imports of $100.270 million in the same period last year. Imports from China amounted to $90.849 million (12.30 per cent), India $69.634 million (9.43 per cent), and Vietnam $57.368 million (7.77 per cent) in the first quarter of the current year. The share of imports from Japan was 5.51 per cent, Germany 5.39 per cent, South Korea 4.36 per cent, Italy 4.01 per cent, and Taiwan 2.99 per cent of the total US imports in January-March 2024. These countries were the next top five suppliers.
The US imported industrial textiles worth $738.918 million in the first quarter of last year, indicating that imports have remained steady in the first three months of this year. Among the top five suppliers, Mexico's share was 13.57 per cent, Canada 12.90 per cent, China 11.50 per cent, Vietnam 9.19 per cent, and India 6.60 per cent, according to TexPro.
Last year, US’ imports of industrial textiles totalled $2,992.544 million. Of this, imports from the top supplier Mexico were valued at $433.510 million, representing 14.49 per cent of the total. Imports from Canada were $408.357 million (13.65 per cent), China $355.769 million (11.89 per cent), India $262.674 million (8.78 per cent), and Vietnam $227.644 million (7.61 per cent) in 2023.
