As far as technology goes, A R Mundra, Executive Director for Finance at Bombay Rayon Fashions Ltd, believes that it has not yet developed. He explains, "Latest and advanced technology is imported from other countries but is not being created domestically. Infact, investments are also minimum for this purpose. Technology has a long way to go."

Most executives believe that labour issues in the industry should be taken seriously. A Lakshmi Machines official says, "Manpower training is paramount. Automation is the solution for shortage of trained man power in this industry."

However, Paulomee Mistry, Vice President of Gujarat Agriculture Labour Union (GALU), says, "Many skilled labourers are unemployed. Due to migration of workers, many textile mills have closed down in Ahmedabad. Since ours is an agriculture-based-economy, proper attention and facilities should be provided to textile labourers. Many educated and potential youngsters in rural areas are unemployed. Service sector has been developed but it is still not upto the mark. Living standard has risen but still the poor struggle to hunt for food. India has grown when it comes to quality and technology. However, Government has been unable to generate employment, simultaneously."

Despite all the flaws and shortcomings, India has shown excellent development. Textile industry, in particular, has been persistent. Mundra says, "The future of this sector looks very good. Textile is a developing industry. Specifically, overseas investors are finding it convenient to conduct trade with India, more because of our favorable policies and reliability. India has a dazzling future and textiles will shine brighter!"

Poddar further emphasizes, "Future is strong but only for those who keep up with the changing times and aggressively involve themselves in innovating things for the better. It is just the beginning...there is lot in store for the textile industry."
