To press for cash incentives including tax holiday for knitwear industry, the leaders of Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacture and Exporters' Association (BKMEA) will meet Finance and Planning Minister Saifur Rahman, today.
Knitwear exporters have been pressing hard for cash incentive from exports even as woven garment exporters been enjoying them.
The BKMEA delegation is led by its President Fazlul Haq who informed that several issues facing the organisation would be discussed with the Minister.
About the ongoing tussle between his association and Bangladesh Textile Mills Association, Haq declined to seek Minister's intervention to resolve the over utilisation declaration issue.
Industry observers say knitwear exports will soon overtake the export earning derived from exports of woven sector.
For the ten month during fiscal 2004-05, knitwear sector registered 34.58 percent growth over the corresponding period in the 2003-04 fiscal.
Earning from export reached US $2.53 billion (target - $2.5 billion) against the 2003-04 fiscal earning at $2.1 billion.
Woven garment export target has been fixed at $ 3.8 billion for 2004-05 fiscal, but in the first ten months of the current fiscal, exports worth only $3.2 billion have been registered indicating a 6.75 percent drop.
