The textile and jute industry in Nepal is expected to get a boost with a recent announcement of the finance ministry. According to reports emanating from Nepal, the government is contemplating reopening of the defunct textile and jute mills in the country.

On the radar of the government are the Hetauda Textile Mill and the Biratnagar Jute Mill. Both these units had to be winded up due to acute financial crisis. A task force has been formed to work out the modalities on reopening these mills.

The government has allocated Rs 300 million in the current year's budget to reopen these two and other units in an effort to provide re-employment to the workers of the closed mills as well as provide a boost to the local economy of the region.
