  • President Donald Trump has announced that the US will reveal a new list of countries subject to trade tariffs on Wednesday, starting with at least seven in the morning (local time) and more in the afternoon.
  • The tariffs, effective from August 1, 2025, aim to address trade imbalances.
  • Previously announced rates range from 25 to 40 per cent.
  • Finalised deals so far include the UK, China, and Vietnam.
President Donald Trump has announced on Truth Social that the US will unveil a minimum of seven new countries facing trade tariffs on Wednesday morning (local time), with additional names to be released later in the day. The move is part of a sweeping tariff expansion aimed at rebalancing trade ties and reducing the US goods trade deficit.

“We will be releasing a minimum of 7 Countries having to do with trade, tomorrow morning, with an additional number of Countries being released in the afternoon. Thank you for your attention to this matter!” Trump wrote on Truth Social on Tuesday.

The statement follows a series of letters sent to various governments starting July 7, notifying them of reciprocal tariff rates to be enforced from August 1, 2025. “There has been no change to this date, and there will be no change,” Trump said, firmly ruling out any extensions. “All money will be due and payable starting August 1.”

A White House factsheet stated that the revised tariffs are grounded in fairness and reciprocity, with rates adjusted based on bilateral trade imbalances. In some cases, the new tariffs are lower than initially proposed on April 2; in others, they are higher.

Already announced tariff rates include:

  • 25 per cent: Japan, South Korea, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Tunisia
  • 30 per cent: South Africa, Bosnia and Herzegovina
  • 32 per cent: Indonesia
  • 35 per cent: Bangladesh, Serbia
  • 36 per cent: Thailand, Cambodia
  • 40 per cent: Myanmar, Laos

So far, the US has only finalised tariff agreements with the UK, China, and Vietnam. The White House expressed optimism that the new structure would mark “a Golden Age for the American People.”
