Vietnamese industry and trade minister Nguyen Hong Dien began discussions on economic and trade issues with the United States yesterday through a conference call to US trade representative Jamieson L. Greer.

The call was attended by members of the Vietnamese government's negotiation team and those from other ministries and sectors.

Dien said Vietnamese ministries and the industry stand ready to address US concerns and work together to find mutually-beneficial solutions based on the principle of harmonised interests and shared risks, a domestic news agency reported.

Greer too expressed confidence that both sides will soon reach appropriate solutions.

The talks followed President Donald Trump’s announcement of a 90-day pause on reciprocal tariffs on imports from a number of trade partners, including Vietnam.
