Vietnam’s new regional minimum wage policy will be effective beginning July 1, when the two-tier local administration system comes into effect.

Monthly minimum wage now will be VND 4.96 million (~$194.50) in region 1, which covers Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City; VND 4.41 million (~$172.90) in region 2, which covers a number of industrial zones and areas with high urbanisation; VND 3.86 million (~$151.30) in region 3, which covers the Red river delta (around Hanoi), the central coast and parts of the Southeast and Mekong river delta; and VND 3.45 million (~$135.30) in region 4, which covers rural and agricultural areas with lower costs of living.

The hourly minimum wage shall be between VND 16,600 (~$0.65) and VND 23,800 (~$0.93) depending on the region, according to domestic media reports.

The regional monthly minimum wage implemented from July 1, 2024 was 6 per cent higher than the previous such wage.
