Do large-scale ethylene plants cost less?

Building large-scale installations and a growing economy is an effective way for local and overseas ethylene industries to achieve low-cost development strategies.

Related statistics show that production cost of the ethylene scale with one million tons per year could be almost 25 percent less than the scale of 500,000 tons per year.

In recent years, the trend of enlarging ethylene plant scale has become increasingly obvious. China is quickly approaching international standards. It is estimated that in 2009, the average size of China's ethylene devices will reach 656,600 tons per year.

Currently, the world's largest ethylene plant for commercial operation is in Canada. Put into production in 2000, it has a capacity of 1.3 million tons per year and takes ethane and propane for NGL as its raw materials.

The largest ethylene plant, taking naphtha and light diesel oil as raw materials, was built in 1999 in Texas with a capacity of 1.2 million tons per year.

Most of the world ethylene plants, which were put into operation in the last two years, are above 800,000 tons per year.

Iran has the largest number and the largest of plants, with the largest scale being 1.4 million tons per year.

The average ethylene production scale in the World was 427,000 tons per year in 2001 and increased to 450,000 tons per year in 2005.

The average size of China's ethylene production in 2001 was 266,000 tons per year. The average size of China's ethylene plants is gradually improving and accelerating every year, since the expansion to original devices and large ethylene plants being put into operation one by one.
