The first international “TextileTrends” conference will take place in Berlin on February 14-16, 2006, focusing on textile innovations and enhanced applications.

Thirty-seven speakers will shed light on the market for functional and technical textiles and present new trends.

The program can be viewed now at www.textile-trends.de. The forum will begin with a plenary session devoted to international market observations: What are the future prospects of the textile industry for the next ten years?

Which factors will drive its growth, and what technical and business challenges must textile companies master?

These questions will be answered by Prof. Dr. Roshan Shishoo, director of the Swedish company Shishoo Consulting AB.

Then a presentation by Prof. Dr. Marc van Parys, the president of UNITEX, the National Association of executives of the textile industry in Belgium, will zero in on new possibilities and growth opportunities in connection with functional and technical textiles.

Another of the topics to be covered during the plenary session is “smart clothing”, in other words clothes containing electronic components that can warm or cool their wearers.

The textile producers Interactive Wear AG, ITP GmbH and WarmX GmbH will present their latest developments.

The conference will then be divided up into two parallel presentation series.

“Functional textiles” is the theme of the first series, which will be chaired by Alain Langerock, business development manager at Devan Chemicals, and Hans-Jürgen Buschmann of the Deutsches Textilforschungszentrum Nord-West e.V.
