Vertically integrated wool broker Australian Wool Network (AWN) Victorian Manager Mark Quartermain announced that nominations were being called for the AWN Victorian young Merino breeder of the year award.
He said this award provides an opportunity to be pro-active about breeding Australian Merinos and promotes and recognises young dedicated Merino breeders in the industry.
AWN is instrumental in organising and supporting this event, now in its second year, recognising through an award to a young Victorian sheep breeder whose major focus is on the breeding of Australian Merinos.
The Victorian Stud Merino Sheep breeders' Association assists in promoting and conducting the event.
Mr Quartermain said Victorian Merino field day groups had been invited to nominate participants and this year for the first time individual nominations will also be accepted.
He said the criteria of the award were: The nominated person for the award will be no older than 35 years. Candidates must have Merino breeding (either commercial Merino self replacing flocks and/or ram breeding) as a major proportion of their Victorian farming involvement.
Nominated candidates will be required to have completed the nomination form including the request for response to criteria. He said a finalist short list will be undertaken and finalists will be required to attend an interview and dinner at Hamilton on Friday, March 17 prior to the announcement of the awards at the Balmoral Show on Saturday, March 18 2006.
