  • South India's cotton yarn trade remained sluggish despite sporadic new cotton arrivals in north India. Prices stayed stable in Mumbai and Tiruppur as spinning mills avoided cuts to protect margins. Traders said the recent GST rate cut may shift demand towards polyester, widening the price gap with cotton. All-India cotton arrivals rose to **,*00–**,*00 bales, with Gujarat reporting negligible inflow.

Tiruppur’s market saw slower demand for cotton yarn, with both domestic and international demand remaining very weak. However, prices have shown little movement in the past couple of days. A Tiruppur trader told Fibre*Fashion, “Cotton yarn is facing a seasonal demand slump. Domestic consumers prefer cheaper manmade yarn garments during the winter season. The lower GST on the manmade textile value chain will further impact cotton yarn demand, making it costlier than polyester as the GST cut will bring down prices of polyester and its products.”

In Tiruppur, knitting cotton yarn prices were noted as ** count combed cotton yarn at &#****;***-*** (~$*.**-*.**) per kg (excluding GST), ** count combed cotton yarn at &#****;***-*** (~$*-**-*.**) per kg, ** count combed cotton yarn at &#****;***-*** (~$*.**-*.**) per kg, ** count carded cotton yarn at &#****;***-*** (~$*.**-*.**) per kg, ** count carded cotton yarn at &#****;***-*** (~$*.**-*.**) per kg and ** count carded cotton yarn at &#****;***-*** (~$*.**-*.**) per kg.
