  • India's man-made fibre yarn market showed mixed trends.
  • Polyester specialised yarn rose in Surat due to strong weaving demand and higher PSF prices, while PC and spun yarn remained stable in Ludhiana.
  • Viscose yarn stayed steady in Mumbai and Surat, though views on price corrections differed.
  • North India's cotton prices slipped amid weak demand and ICE pressure.
India’s man-made fibre yarn trade continued to receive positive cues from the textile value chain. Polyester yarn prices rose by ₹1–2 per kg in the Surat market. However, the Ludhiana market remained stable for polyester-cotton and polyester yarn, with demand described as steady. Viscose yarn also remained stable in both Mumbai and Surat amid above-average demand.

Polyester specialised yarn strengthened in the Surat market due to strong demand from the weaving industry. Prices rose by ₹1–2 per kg for fully drawn yarn (FDY) and bright varieties. A recent hike in virgin polyester staple fibre (PSF) also supported the price increase in these products. However, polyester spun yarn traded at stable prices. A trader from Surat told Fibre2Fashion, “Higher PSF costs and better demand are driving the price rise in polyester specialised yarn. The return of workers to the weaving industry has further boosted demand. The industry is trying to build sufficient stock of various fabric types ahead of the festival season. The market also expects better yarn buying to fulfil garment export orders.”

In Surat market, 30 count polyester spun yarn was traded at ₹145-146 (~$1.70-1.72) per kg (GST extra); 40 count poly spun yarn at ₹163-164 (~$1.91-1.92) per kg; 50/48 fully drawn yarn (FDY) at ₹117-119 (~$1.37-1.39) per kg; 75/72 FDY at ₹108-109 (~$1.26-1.28) per kg; and 75 bright yarn at ₹107-108 (~$1.25-1.26) per kg.

Meanwhile, PC and polyester spun yarn prices remained steady in the Ludhiana market. Demand was also stable across north India. According to a trader from Ludhiana, garment manufacturing for the winter season is gaining momentum. Garment units are also receiving corporate orders, as companies typically procure jerseys and other clothing for employees and promotional use.

In Ludhiana, 30 count PC combed yarn (48/52) traded at ₹202-211 (~$2.36-2.47) per kg (GST inclusive); 30 count PC carded yarn (65/35) at ₹190-200 (~$2.22-2.34) per kg; 20 recycled polyester yarn at ₹120-125 (~$1.40-1.46) per kg; 30 count polyester spun at ₹158-165 (~$1.85-1.93) per kg (GST inclusive); recycled polyester fibre (PET bottle fibre) at ₹77-79 (~$0.90-0.92) per kg and virgin polyester fibre at ₹100.00 (~$1.17) per kg.

Viscose yarn markets in Surat and Mumbai remained steady with consistent buying from the consumer industry. However, Surat traders indicated a potential correction in prices over the coming weeks due to higher supply and limited demand. The recent sharp price rise has discouraged bulk purchases. In contrast, traders in Mumbai held a different view, believing that viscose yarn prices may remain stable, supported by festival season demand across the textile value chain.

In Mumbai, imported 30 count viscose vortex yarn was priced at ₹207-213 (~$2.42-2.49) per kg; and local 30 count ring-spun viscose yarn at ₹208-215 (~$2.43-2.52) per kg in this market. In Surat, 30 viscose compact yarn (local) was sold at ₹222-223 (~$2.60-2.61) per kg (GST extra) and 30 viscose vortex yarn at ₹207-208 (~$2.42-2.43) per kg.

In north India, cotton prices declined by ₹10 per maund (37.2 kg) today, tracking a bearish trend in ICE cotton futures. Buyers remained inactive for fresh purchases. According to trade sources, private traders and ginners are holding limited stocks. Mills are receiving adequate supplies from the Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) and global sources. Weak downstream demand is also dampening sentiment in the cotton trade.

Cotton arrivals in north India totalled 700 bales (170 kg each), comprising 500 bales in Haryana and 200 in upper Rajasthan. No fresh arrivals were reported in lower Rajasthan or Punjab. Cotton prices in Punjab ranged from ₹5,700–5,710 (~$66.69–66.80) per maund; in Haryana, ₹5,520–5,570 (~$64.58–65.16); and in upper Rajasthan, ₹5,680–5,740 (~$66.45–67.15). In lower Rajasthan, prices stood at ₹53,200–54,600 (~$622.40–638.78) per candy of 356 kg.
