  • Cotton prices in north India dropped after recent gains, as demand slowed.
  • Limited cotton arrivals were reported across Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan.
India’s man-made yarn markets witnessed weak demand from the consumer industry. In Surat, polyester spun yarn eased by ₹1 per kg, though other polyester yarn varieties remained steady. Polyester-cotton yarn saw relatively better uptake as winter demand is expected to begin in the coming week; however, prices did not rise despite increased buying. Viscose yarn prices in Mumbai and Surat markets also remained stable. Cheaper imports dampened market sentiment, but prices did not fall further after last week's drop.

Polyester spun yarn showed weaker sentiment in both Surat and Ludhiana markets. Prices largely remained stable, with only a few varieties seeing changes. In Surat, 30-count polyester spun yarn declined by ₹1 per kg, while other polyester yarn varieties were traded at previous levels in both Surat and Ludhiana. Ludhiana recorded slightly higher demand for polyester-cotton yarn, but prices remained largely unchanged.

In Ludhiana, 30 count PC combed yarn (48/52) traded at ₹204-214 (approximately $2.39-2.51) per kg (GST inclusive); 30 count PC carded yarn (65/35) at ₹192-202 (approximately $2.25-2.36) per kg; 20 recycled polyester yarn at ₹114-120 (approximately $1.33-1.40) per kg; 30 count polyester spun at ₹150-162 (approximately $1.76-1.90) per kg (GST inclusive); recycled polyester fibre (PET bottle fibre) at ₹79-80 (approximately $0.92-0.94) per kg and virgin polyester fibre at ₹96 (approximately $1.12) per kg.

A trader from Surat told Fibre2Fashion, “Demand in Surat remained slow due to weak downstream activity. The market continues to face payment constraints even in the new fiscal, which began on April 1. Demand may stay subdued in the coming weeks.”

In Surat market, 30 count polyester spun yarn was traded at ₹142-143 (approximately $1.68-1.69) per kg (GST extra); 40 count poly spun yarn at ₹156-158 (approximately $1.83-1.85) per kg; 50/48 fully drawn yarn (FDY) at ₹113-114 (approximately $1.32-1.33) per kg; 75/72 FDY at ₹104-105 (approximately $1.22-1.23) per kg; 75 bright yarn at ₹104-105 (approximately $1.22-1.23) per kg.

Viscose yarn remained steady in both Surat and Mumbai markets. According to market sources, the viscose yarn trade is suffering from weak demand amid uncertainty. Recent reports of cheaper viscose yarn imports from China further discouraged buyers from making new deals.

In Mumbai, imported 30 count viscose vortex yarn was priced at ₹203-207 (approximately $2.38-2.42) per kg; and local 30 count ring-spun viscose yarn at ₹204-209 (approximately $2.39-2.45) per kg in this market. In Surat, 30 viscose compact yarn (local) was sold at ₹218-220 (approximately $2.55-2.58) per kg (GST extra) and 30 viscose vortex yarn at ₹204-205 (approximately $2.39-2.40) per kg.

In north India, cotton prices eased after rising consistently over the past 8–10 days. Prices fell by ₹10–30 per maund (37.2 kg) in the last two trading sessions. The decline followed slower demand and falling ICE cotton futures. Trade sources said the recent price hike has discouraged fresh buying, despite cotton availability being limited in various north Indian markets.

Cotton arrivals in north India totalled 1,350 bales (170 kg each): 50 in Punjab, 600 in Haryana, 500 in upper Rajasthan, and 200 in lower Rajasthan. In Punjab, cotton prices ranged from ₹5,750 to ₹5,760 (approximately $68.03–68.15) per maund; in Haryana, ₹5,660 to ₹5,690 (approximately $66.97–67.32); in upper Rajasthan, ₹5,770 to ₹5,790 (approximately $68.27–68.51); and in lower Rajasthan, ₹54,500 to ₹55,900 (approximately $644.85–661.41) per candy (356 kg).
