In Ludhiana, prices for PC and polyester yarn increased by ₹1-3 per kg. Seasonal demand supported this price rise, as PC and polyester fabrics and garments are in demand during winter. A trader from Ludhiana told Fibre2Fashion, "Delayed seasonal demand has picked up for PC and polyester yarn. The textile value chain has begun manufacturing winter garments and other products. However, manufacturing activities for the festivals and winter season were delayed because everyone was cautious." Meanwhile, the price of recycled polyester fibre declined by ₹2 per kg due to a fall in crude oil prices and the cost of virgin polyester fibre and its upstream products.
In Ludhiana, 30 count PC combed yarn (48/52) traded at ₹208-218 (approximately $2.48-2.60) per kg (GST inclusive); 30 count PC carded yarn (65/35) at ₹195-205 (approximately $2.32-2.44) per kg; 20 recycled polyester fibre yarn at ₹110-120 (approximately $1.31-1.43) per kg; 30 count polyester spun at ₹162-170 (approximately $1.93-2.02) per kg (GST inclusive); and recycled polyester fibre (PET bottle fibre) at ₹71-73 (approximately $0.85-0.87) per kg.
Polyester yarn saw mixed trends in Surat. FDY and bright yarn prices eased by ₹1 per kg due to a decrease in the cost of upstream products, including crude oil. According to market sources, falling crude oil prices have made raw materials for polyester fibre cheaper, although demand has been better from power loom owners. Polyester spun yarn remained stable due to support from the demand in the weaving industry.
In Surat, 30 count polyester spun yarn was traded at ₹147-148 (approximately $1.75-1.76) per kg (GST extra); 40 count poly spun yarn at ₹160-161 (approximately $1.91-1.92) per kg; 50/48 fully drawn yarn (FDY) at ₹115-116 (approximately $1.37-1.38) per kg; 75/72 at FDY ₹106-107 (approximately $1.26-1.27) per kg; 75 bright yarn at ₹105-106 (approximately $1.25-1.26) per kg.
Viscose yarn prices were also higher in the Surat and Mumbai markets due to festival demand. Trade sources reported that viscose yarn demand is comparatively better as buyers from the downstream industry are more active. However, the steep fall in container freight charges has increased the likelihood of importing viscose yarn.
In Mumbai, imported 30 count viscose vortex yarn was priced at ₹193-199 (approximately $2.30-2.37) per kg; and local 30 count ring-spun viscose yarn at ₹198-204 (approximately $2.37-2.43) per kg in this market. In Surat, 30 viscose compact yarn (local) was sold at ₹200-202 (approximately $2.38-2.41) per kg (GST extra) and 30 viscose vortex yarn at ₹198-200 (approximately $2.36-2.38) per kg.
In north India, cotton prices remained stable amid lower buying from spinners. The weakening of ICE cotton did not impact domestic cotton prices. Traders noted that the quality of north India's cotton is weak due to last year's heavy rains affecting the standing crop. As a result, buyers are cautious about making new purchases and will only buy cotton if it is economically beneficial. Cotton arrivals have reduced to almost zero in all the producing states of north India, with ginners and stockists selling their stocks. The new cotton crop is progressing well as the weather has remained favourable so far.
Cotton prices in Punjab ranged from ₹5,725 to ₹5,735 (approximately $68.25-68.37) per maund of 37.2 kg, while in Haryana, prices ranged from ₹5,625 to ₹5,635 (approximately $67.05-67.17). In upper Rajasthan, cotton was priced between ₹5,425- ₹5,725 (approximately $64.67-68.25) per maund. Bikaner line cotton was sold for ₹5,800 to ₹5,825 (approximately $69.14-69.44) per maund. In lower Rajasthan, cotton was priced at ₹53,400 to ₹55,700 (approximately $636.57-663.98) per candy of 356 kg.
