Delhi market noticed average demand but recent rise in cotton prices pushed up yarn prices by ₹4-5 per kg. A trader from Delhi told Fibre2Fashion, “There was no encouraging demand from downstream industry. But yarn prices gained as cotton saw steep rise in price last week.”
In this market, 30 count combed knitting yarn was traded at ₹267-270 (approximately $3.18-3.22) per kg (GST extra), 40 count combed at ₹289-297 (approximately $3.44-3.54) per kg, 30 count carded at ₹244-246 (approximately $2.91-2.93) per kg, and 40 count carded at ₹269-272 (approximately $3.20-3.24) per kg today.
In Ludhiana market, cotton yarn prices remained stable due to weak demand from the consumer industry. The ongoing festival season has failed to fuel demand in the textile value chain. A trader from Ludhiana said that festival season is almost over if we talk about cotton yarn market. This is time for garmenting and shipment of apparel consignments. However, it is possible that yarn market may see buying for restocking if downstream industry receives good festival demand.
In Ludhiana, 30 count cotton combed yarn was sold at ₹260-270 (approximately $3.10-3.22) per kg (inclusive of GST); 20 and 25 count combed yarn were traded at ₹250-260 (approximately $2.98-3.10) per kg and ₹255-265 (approximately $3.04-3.16) per kg, respectively; and carded yarn of 30 count was noted at 240-245 (approximately $2.86-2.92) per kg today, according to trade sources.
Panipat, India’s home textiles hub, has seen increased demand for recycled yarn as the home furnishing sector is increasing purchases ahead of the festival season. Despite the higher demand, recycled yarn prices did not see any significant movement. A trader from Panipat market said that recycled polyester fibre had increased last week due to scarcity of PET bottles, which are the main raw material for the product. On the other hand, virgin polyester fibre and upstream raw material are feeling pressure due to fall in global crude oil prices.
In Panipat, 10s recycled PC yarn (Grey) was traded at ₹78-82 (approximately $0.93-0.98) per kg (GST paid). Other varieties and counts were noted as: 10s recycled PC yarn (Black) at ₹53-56 (approximately $0.63-0.67) per kg, 20s recycled PC yarn (Grey) at ₹96-102 (approximately $1.14-1.21) per kg and 30s recycled PC yarn (Grey) at ₹130-135 (approximately $1.55-1.61) per kg. Cotton comber prices were noted at ₹105-110 (approximately $1.25-1.31) per kg. Recycled polyester fibre (PET bottle fibre) was noted at ₹71-75 (approximately $0.85-0.89) per kg today.
In north India, cotton prices steadied after increase during the last week. Cotton prices had risen to ₹150 per maund of 37.2 kg in the last week due to reports of crop damage in main producing states of Gujarat, Maharashtra, Telangana and Karnataka. Traders said that mills are buying cotton in limited quantities. Recent rise in the prices and quality issue made them cautious for new buying.
Cotton arrival was almost zero in Haryana, Punjab and Rajasthan. However, stocked cotton was traded between buyers and sellers. Cotton prices in Punjab ranged between ₹5,900 to ₹5,910 (approximately $70.27-70.39) per maund of 37.2 kg, while in Haryana, prices ranged from ₹5,800 to ₹5,810 (approximately $69.08-69.20). In upper Rajasthan, cotton was priced between ₹5,600- ₹5,900 (approximately $66.70-70.27) per maund. Bikaner line cotton was sold for ₹5,900 to ₹5,950 (approximately $70.27-70.87) per maund. In lower Rajasthan, cotton was priced at ₹56,200 to ₹59,200 (approximately $669.40-705.13) per candy of 356 kg.
