Aeropostale Inc, a mall-based specialty retailer of casual and active apparel for young women and men, announced that total net sales for the five-week period ended July 7, 2007 increased 5.3% to $111.4 million, from $105.8 million for the five-week period ended July 1, 2006. Same store sales for the month increased 0.2%, compared to the corresponding five-week period ended July 8, 2006.
Year-to-date, total net sales increased 11.6% to $475.3 million, from $426.0 million in the year-ago period. Year-to-date, same store sales increased 1.9%, compared to the corresponding period ended June 3, 2006.
Julian R. Geiger, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer said, "Consistent with our strategic approach and continuing the strong increases in our gross margins over last year, during the month we carefully managed our promotional cadence and controlled the level of our clearance inventories. We are pleased with both the level and composition of our merchandise assortment as we head into the back to school selling season."
The company believes that the disclosure of sales on a pro-forma basis due to the 53rd week in fiscal 2006, which is a non-GAAP financial measure, provides investors useful information to help them better understand the company's expected results.
