South Korea’s Dongsung Chemical has inaugurated a polyurethane (PU) production plant in Karawang, Indonesia, representing a key step in expanding its global materials presence. The advanced 81,000-square-meter plant will annually produce 67,000 tons of PU-based materials such as prepolymers, polyester polyols, and polyurethane resins, tripling the company's previous output across China, Korea and Vietnam.
Built with advanced automation and robust storage capacity, the facility enhances supply chain resilience and is expected to generate approximately $150 million in annual revenue. Positioned near key logistics hubs, it will serve growing markets across Southeast Asia, the Americas, and Europe.
Construction of the Karawang facility began in September 2023, with trial manufacturing completed earlier this year, and full operations officially launched in February 2025.
Executives from Korea and Indonesia, including chairman Jeong-Ho Baek and minister Rosan Roeslani, attended the inauguration, underscoring the site's regional significance. Dongsung also announced plans to enter the furniture materials market, broadening its reach beyond its existing focus in automotive, electronics, and synthetic leather sectors.
This milestone reinforces Dongsung’s commitment to sustainable growth and positions the company as a leading PU supplier in Southeast Asia.
