NID presents 26th Convocation

The 26th Convocation of National Institute of Design (NID) was celebrated with creative splendour today on January 20, 2006 . In tune with the trend of last few years, this year too the total number of graduating students was substantially higher than the previous year.

As compared to 88 of previous year, the total number of students graduating this year was 128 under the four different faculties of design namely Industrial, Communication, Textile and Apparel Design and IT integrated design.

Members of NID's newly constituted Governing Council and its Chairman, Dr. Ajay Dua, IAS, who is also the Secretary, Govt. of India, in the department of IPP, Ministry of Commerce and Industry (under which NID functions) were present on the occasion. Dr Dua conferred the diploma on the graduating students.

NID released two monographs titled Nano and Smart Technology; Textile Design Applications and Plasma Textile Technology Design Application written by Shri PB Jhala, Chair Incumbent, John Bissel Research Chair, NID.

The monographs were released by Dr Ajay Dua, Chairman, NID Governing Council. The Graduate Show 'Young Designers,' a display of the design innovations by the graduating students completed as part of their diploma project, was opened to public by the Chairman, NID Governing Council, Dr Ajay Dua. The theme of this year's exhibition is “Sense & Sensibility.”

It will remain open for public viewing during January 21-23, 2006 . The next two days after the convocation i.e. January 21and 22, 2006 will be the students' Placement Day. A “Pogo” creation of Dinosaur by the second year animation students is an added attraction on campus. Over 50 national and international companies have confirmed their presence for the Industry Interface on January 21 and 22, 06 for placement and internship of students.
