CSIRO Textile and Fibre Technology's Chief, Dr Nigel Johnson, has been presented with a 'Service to Industry Award' for his long-term commitment to the textile industry.
Nominated by industry members, the Award was announced earlier this month at the Annual General Meeting of The Textile Institute's Southern Australia Section.
“Your long-term service to the industry, both in Australia and overseas, as a long standing member of The Textile Institute and the industry networks that you have developed are recognised in addition to the industry initiatives instigated during your time as Chief at CSIRO Textile and Fibre Technology,” said Textile Institute (Southern Aust) President, Les Mapstone.
The Institute's Vice President, Ashley van Krieken, stressed the Service to Industry Award was not necessarily made yearly but, rather, was presented when the merits of a particular nominee warranted it.
The industry commended Dr Johnson for his overall contribution in providing direction and innovation in various senior positions within major national and international organisations throughout his career including:
1. The International Wool Secretariat in Ilkley, UK. 2. The School of Textile Technology at the University of NSW. 3. The Wool Research Organisation of New Zealand Inc (WRONZ), which became Canesis Network Ltd (including being Managing Director of Canesis Australia Pty Ltd). and 4. CSIRO Textile and Fibre Technology.
