Foreign trade official Lu Jianhua says trade hit due to US textile restrictions

Chinese companies should transfer from the old way of winning the market by quantity to the new way of winning the market by quality. Ceaseless efforts should be made to raise the scientific and technical content of products, pay attention to nurturing proprietary name brands, and produce more value-added export products. In this way, they can sharpen their core competitive edge on the one hand, and on the other help reduce trade frictions with other developing countries by producing different higher-grade products.

Second, Chinese textile companies should also actively “go global” to utilize the raw material and labor force advantages of other countries. On the one hand, this is a way to diversify the “country of origin” and dilute the risks, and on the other hand to create job opportunities, drive up the local economy, and ultimately facilitate development and a win-win outcome through cooperation.

In fact, after China's entry into the WTO, it is quite natural to have more trade frictions as the size of trade is expanding. It is also a natural result of the constant improvement of China's economic strength and our comprehensive participation in global competition and cooperation.

Facing up with problems in the textile trade, we hope all the Chinese textile companies can make concerted efforts together with the government, give full play to the role of each and every company, and raise their core competitiveness and risk-preventing capability to really adapt themselves to the changing world market full of fierce competition.
