AATCC announced its 2007 Materials Design Competition for students, developed by its Materials Interest Group in August 2006.

Submissions were invited from both graduate and undergraduate students. The competition aim is to promote innovative product development from a material structures design perspective.

The theme of this year's competition was “Design of Material Structures.” All entries were evaluated on concept originality, design element integration, technical feasibility, clarity of supporting documentation, technical and materials rationale, efficacy of the proposed commercialization of the idea, and viability of economic cost analysis.

Finalists in each category were asked to submit electronic and physical poster boards for final judging by May 1, 2007. Winning entries will be awarded $1,000 for First Place, $500 for Second Place, and complimentary student registration for the 2007 International Conference & Exhibition (IC&E) at the Francis Marion Hotel in Charleston, S.C, October 2-4, 2007. The July 2007 issue of AATCC Review will include an article featuring the competition winners.
