India, the gateway to the Orient, opened the floodgates to textiles sourcing, through Intex, the one-of-its-kind truly global trade fair for apparel Fabrics and Accessories, which was held at the Grand Hyatt Convention Centre, Santacruz (East), Mumbai, from October 10 – 12, 2005.
Some 95 exhibitors, the crème de la crème drawn from 13 countries, had on show the best and the latest in the world of textiles and accessories. The countries that participated included France, Italy, Peru, Vietnam, Egypt, Thailand, Korea, Taiwan, Pakistan, China, Hong Kong, Sri Lanka and the host India. Interestingly, the 5,340 buyers that came visiting comprised some 300 foreign visitors from 37 countries and parts of the world, such as the USA, the UK, France, Europe, Venezuela, Canada, the Middle-East, South Asia, China and Hong Kong, making it a complete international event.
As the lush green lawns looked inviting, the slick and trendy environs of the Convention Centre were decked up in pleasing blue and green, to welcome the guests and dignitaries to the sound of bugles and shower of petals. The Union Minister of Textiles, Mr Shankar Sinh Vaghela, the chief guest, was the first to light the traditional lamp and cut the ribbon before declaring the three-day event open. The Raymond Group Chairman and Managing Director, Mr Gautam Singhania, the guest of honour, the Clothing Manufacturers Association of India, President, Mr Premal Udani, the CMAI Committee Member, Mr Nilesh Mehta,and the Worldex India Chairman, Mr Rajesh Bhagat, also lighted the lamp.
